New Moorings And Maintenance At Rudders Boatyard
There are many options to keep a boat in the Milford Haven area. One of which is your own mooring. This something we'd be happy to help you with.
Near the end of this page you will find an online form to request a mooring service. Please review our pricing before you fill out this form.
New Moorings
One such option is to consider seeing if you could be granted a licence to lay your own mooring. You can do this through a local voluntary control body (VCB). The Port Authority directly control some of the other areas. If you can obtain permission and you are comfortable that you have found a safe, suitable and convenient location to moor your boat. From past experience, please ensure that you specifically consider where you will park, any charges or long term security issues. You will also need to store or unload & inflate your dinghy. Will it be safe left there and how will you get it to the water? How accessible is the water to launch your dinghy and are you going to need to plan around the tides, etc.
Do you know or have someone in the area who can regularity check on your moored boat if you are not around? (At least weekly would be our recommendation - it may be worth checking if your insurers may expect anything specific).
Your Own Mooring
To help ensure that you have fully considered all the pros a cons of having your own mooring we have put togethe this list. The costs are as follows: -
- The cost of laying the mooring.
- An annual maintenance check.
- Crown Estate fees for the footprint the mooring makes on their land.
- In some areas ongoing Port Authority licence renewals.
- Annual service cost, £8 per ft of boat length (min 23ft)
- Complete new mooring made up & laid - £39.50 per ft of boat length
- Mooring is made to be as long lasting as possible in order to reduce the longer term costs of ownership. It is designed around the depth of water, nature of the seabed, local conditions, type, weight and size of your vessel.
- All prices are inclusive of vat.
- *Boat length to be shown in both meters & feet*

Moorings Maintenance

We know that having & maintaining a mooring in the Haven has become an increasingly expensive affair. We know, because we have 60 of our own where we already have to cover the cost of maintaining plus annual MHPA & Crown Estate fees to pay!

The costs running our moorings workboat naturally rise, but we always do our best to keep any necessary increases in fees to a minimum.

Rudders have been servicing moorings in the Milford Haven for more than 20 years. During this time we believe we have built up an outstanding reputation for quality work and customer service

We service some 250+ moorings each year within the Haven and as far round as Tenby/Saundersfoot, within that time we have developed a good practice to ensure your vessel is safe.

At Rudders Boat Yard we only use quality equipment such as BS tested shackles. We trust our supplier and have been with them for many many years.

Our purpose built workboat has everything onboard to keep your mooring in service in a single visit. This keeps the annual servicing cost down for you.

Point Of Note
Due to the increasing costs and liabilities of having your own mooring an increasing number of people are choosing instead to come to us for a swinging mooring. We cover all your costs of ownership - or even going to the extent of paying for a local marina berth. Another option if you are not a very regular user is to simply and safely store ashore with us. Then have us launch and retrieve for you “on demand”, using one of our moorings as and when required.
